About the Annual School Recycling Conference:
The School Recycling Conference is held in the spring on the second day of NRRA’s Annual Conference and Expo (the Conference within the Conference). It is a celebration of all things reduced, reused and recycled!
The School Conference offers hands-on activities and workshops for teachers and students as well as exhibit hall time to talk to vendors from the recycling industry. Over the last few years we have offered workshops on current recycling topics such as composting, Earth Day activities, implementing school recycling programs, Vermont’s TRY teams, green cleaning, introducing new recycling curricula, eliminating food waste, textile recycling, how nature recycles and many more timely topics.
We offer interactive activities such as the Energy Bike, Compost Crane and Recycling Pinball. One year we wove bracelets using plastic lids. We have a Recycling Obstacle Course and a Scavenger Hunt. We even have a mini-Trash On the Lawn Day (T.O.L.D.) where we sort the waste generated by the Conference.
Our Conference is capped off by our Awards Luncheon where we recognize students, schools, recycling clubs, teachers and facilities staff who are making a difference. We even had our first student keynote speaker in 2017!
